Do's and don'ts of retinol

Do's and don'ts of retinol - Kenage Beauty

Retinol is an excellent addition to your skincare routine. It has many benefits and many people swear that their skin has transformed due to this powerful skincare product. Some retinol benefits include preventing fine lines and wrinkles, smoothing out skin texture, boosting collagen production, and brightening overall skin complexion. Here are some do's and don'ts of using retinol so you get the best result!

Do wear sunscreen

It would be best if you used sunscreen when using retinol. When using retinol increases your skin's sensitivity to the sun. The harmful UV rays from the sun can burn and prematurely age your skin. So it's best to use retinol only at night and use a good sunscreen with at least SPF 50 during the day to protect your skin.

Don't overuse it!

Retinol provides many incredible benefits to your skin. But too much of a good thing can be harmful. So don't overuse retinol on your skin. For example, when starting to use retinol, please don't use it every day and one to two times a week. And it's best to use retinol only at night before you go to bed.

Do start using it in your 20s

The best age to start using retinol is in your 20s as a preventative measure for aging. In our mid to late 20s, our collagen and elastin production slows down, and it's best to use products that will help boost production. However, you don't want to use retinol too early because the side effects of retinol might add to your skin problems instead of solving them.

Don't use it if you're pregnant or breastfeeding

Do not use retinol if you're pregnant or breastfeeding. Retinol usage when pregnant can result in multiple complications. Some of the difficulties include miscarriages, premature delivery, and congenital disabilities. It's better to be safe than sorry and avoid all retinol skincare products when experiencing pregnancy or breastfeeding and look into alternative skincare products.

Have you tried retinol? If so, do you like it, and what's your favorite retinol product?
