Cleansing your skin is one of the most important steps in keeping your skin healthy and clean! It's best to cleanse your face 1-2 times a day and to use a gentle cleanser that suits your skin type. Cleansing your face might seem like an easy task, but there are some cleansing mistakes that can lead to negative results, like inflamed, dry skin. In this blog post, we will break down some common face washing mistakes that people make!
The water is too hot
We know that taking a hot shower at the beginning or the end of the day can be relaxing. However, dermatologists recommend that we avoid hot water and use lukewarm water instead. Using hot water can strip the natural oils away from our skin, which will dry out our skin. It can also further irritate sensitive skin cause more problems than good. Some issues from using hot water include itchy, red, and inflamed skin.
Over exfoliating
Exfoliating 1-2 times a week is great for our skin. Exfoliating on a weekly basis can remove dead skin cells and reveal healthy new skin. But if you overdo it, it can lead to skin irritations like burning or peeling skin. It can also lead to rough, dry, and patchy skin which is the opposite result you would want after exfoliating your face! You can use either physical or chemical exfoliants on your face , and we suggest you use chemical exfoliants on your face and physical exfoliants on your body!
Over-washing
We suggest you avoid washing your face more than twice a day. Obviously in some cases you can wash it more than twice. But as a general guideline, over-washing your face can damage the skin's barrier and disrupt our skin's natural pH balance. We also suggest you use a gentle cleanser and to choose a cleanser that will suit your skin type. Dry skin should use a creamy hydrating cleanser. Oily skin, should use a gel cleanser that will balance oil production. Combination skin, should use a cleanser that has both hydrating and clarifying ingredients. And sensitive skin, should choose a cleanser that has no fragrance or irritating ingredients.
