Skincare Mistakes That Make Your Acne Worse

Skincare Mistakes That Make Your Acne Worse - Kenage Beauty

Having acne can be a pain in the butt! But there are great skincare products to tackle this problem. However, you don't want to overdo anything about skincare products. You only have one skin, so make sure that you're taking care of it properly. Today we'll be discussing the three mistakes that people make when trying to get rid of their acne.

Aggressive Cleansing Habits

Cleansing your face once to twice a day is necessary to remove the debris and makeup off your face. However, washing your face more than twice a day will harm your complexion. If you overwash your face, you will get rid of your natural oils, which will cause your skin to become dry and tight. This could even result in irritated, inflamed skin. In addition, getting rid of all of the natural oils on your skin will cause your skin to overproduce sebum, which will cause excessive oil on your skin and cause breakouts. Of course, if you worked out and you are experiencing more sweat than usual, it's okay to wash it off. But daily, it's best to wash your face a maximum of two times a day.

There are debates about washing your face twice a day, and some argue that you only need to wash your face once a day at night. This method depends on your skin type. If you have dry to sensitive skin, you might benefit from washing your face once a day. However, those who have combination to oily and acne-prone skin should cleanse their faces twice a day. However, in most cases, it's important to note that you should be using a gentle cleanser to get rid of the dirt and debris on your face.

Not washing micellar water off

Micellar water is a cleansing solution, and it's advertised that you don't need to wash it off, and it's true that for some skin types, it won't irritate their skin if they don't wash it off. But for other skin types, it could aggravate your skin. Micellar waters contain surfactants found in soaps and cleansers, and they can irritate certain skin types. When in doubt, it's better to be safe than sorry, and we should all be rinsing off micellar water with lukewarm water!

Using too many active ingredients

It's easy to get carried away using active ingredients such as AHAs, BHAs, vitamin C, and retinol. They all provide excellent results and can make your skin look glowy. However, too much of anything can be a bad thing. When using active ingredients, it's best to incorporate them slowly and introduce new actives one at a time. It's also best to have most of your skincare products focus on hydration and add one active ingredient skincare product in your routine. You can alternate and use retinol at night while using vitamin C during the day. Or alternative between using retinol for a couple of weeks and then using AHAs and BHAs on the other weeks. Try to figure out what works best for you. But don't use too many active ingredient products in your skincare routine. In the worst-case scenario, it could damage your skin barrier, which would result in skin flare-ups.
