You've probably already heard about the minimalism trend gaining popularity in people's lifestyles. Now there's also a skin trend that's been getting popular called Skinimalism. This trend is based on the minimalism trend and believes that peoples' skincare routines should be simple and consist of only a few products. The main goal of this trend is to achieve healthy and glowing skin with just a few products. This trend is not about having perfect skin but about embracing your skin and using a less is more approach. It hopes to become a more sustainable and cheaper beauty routine.
Typical Routine
Step 1: Cleanser
It would be best to use a gentle cleanser with either hydrating or clarifying ingredients, depending on your skin type. If you have oily skin, it's best to use cleansers with clarifying ingredients such as salicylic acid, charcoal extract, bamboo extract, etc. If you have dry skin, it's best to use hydrating ingredients like hyaluronic acid, glycerin, ceramides, etc. Everyone's skin is different so remember to choose a cleanser that works best with your skin type.
Step 2: Active Serum
This is where you want to choose a serum that will target your specific skin concern. For example, if you are experiencing dark spots and want to brighten your complexion, it's best to use brightening ingredients like vitamin C, retinol, niacinamide, etc. And if you're going to target any signs of aging, it's best to use serums with ingredients like retinol, coenzyme Q10, tea extracts, etc.
Step 3: Moisturizer or Facial Oil
Lock in your serum with an excellent hydrating moisturizer. Even if you have oily skin or acne-prone skin, you should be using a good hydrating moisturizer! During the day, you can use a lightweight gel moisturizer, and during the night, you can use a cream moisturizer. Never skip out on using a good moisturizer, no matter your skin type!
Step 4: Sunscreen (Day Time)
Using sunscreen every day is crucial to achieving glowing, healthy skin. You want to protect your skin from harmful UV rays. Exposure to the sun is one of the leading causes of aging. And if you fail to use sunscreen, you might prematurely age your skin! Using at least SPF 30 and reapplying every 2 hours is how you can protect your skin throughout the day. Use a sunscreen consistency that works with your skin type. Reapplying sunscreen can get tricky, but most people find luck using sunscreen balms or powders that can go over makeup.
Things To Note
Wear Less Foundation
Other things that can help you heal your skin or become more comfortable in your skin are to wear less foundation. If you wear less foundation, your skin will be able to breathe, and some foundations can clog pores, thus creating more skin issues. But if you take a break from wearing foundation, it might speed up the healing process and see results from your skincare routine quicker.
Use Multi-tasking Products
Although today's blog post is about Skinimalism, the same approach can be used in your makeup routine. Using multi-tasking products in your makeup routine is super helpful! It can help cut back the number of products you use and speed up your routine. For example, you could use cream blush or lipstick on your cheeks, lips, and eyes. Or you could use a makeup balm as a highlighter and as a lip balm!
Be Consistent
This section can't be stressed enough, but you need to be consistent with your skincare routine! Even if you use the best skincare products for your skin. You might not reap all of the benefits if you forget to use them every day! Most people have a hard time being consistent with their skincare routine. What might help is by changing your mindset. It would help if you rewired your brain to view your skincare routine as a time for yourself to indulge in self-care and not as a chore. You can see it as a way to decompress at the end of the night or the beginning of the day.
