There are so many things that I would want to tell my teenager self. When I was a teenager, I did not take care of my skin. Since I wasn't taking care of my skin and going through puberty, I had many skin problems. I have acne, and I had so many habits that made my skin look dull and tired. Here are some teen skincare tips that I wish I had known when I was younger!
Disinfect your phone daily!
Did you know that your phone could be the culprit of your acne breakouts? Our phones are so dirty and have so much bacteria on them! Bacteria on our phones will transfer to our faces whenever we answer a phone call, causing acne breakouts. This is why you should be cleaning your phone daily. It's best to clean your phone screen with a 70% isopropyl alcohol wipe or a 75% ethyl alcohol wipe, or Clorox disinfecting wipes.
Use a clay mask once a week
There are so many benefits to using a clay mask weekly. All teenagers go through puberty, and when going through puberty, imbalanced hormones are the leading cause of stimulating oil glands. Once oil glands are stimulated they can lead to breakouts. To balance your oil production, it's best to use a clay mask to absorb and clear your pores. Once the clay mask reduces the excess oil on your face, it will prevent future breakouts. There are many different types of clay. White clay is excellent for all skin types. Geen clay is perfect for oily, combination, and acne-prone skin types. Pink clay is ideal for dry and sensitive skin types. Bentonite clay is a great detoxifying mask that deep cleans your pores.
Use a moisturizer that suits your specific skin type
I love skin trends, but you should not always follow every skin trend. You need to know your skin type before using any product on your face. If you use a product that doesn't suit your skin type, it could result in irritated and inflamed skin or could even result in breakouts. For example, oily skin should use lightweight gel moisturizers. Dry skin should use thicker cream moisturizers. Combination skin should multi-moisturize and use gel and cream moisturizers on specific areas. Sensitive skin should use moisturizers with no fragrance, alcohol, sodium lauryl sulfates, etc.
Use sunscreen every day
Getting used to sunscreen every day is one of the best things you can do for your skin. UV rays are harmful and can cause your skin to burn and prematurely age. UVB rays damage the outer layer of the skin and cause burns, while UVA rays are known to penetrate the skin deeply and cause your skin to age. UVB rays cannot penetrate glass; however, UVA rays can penetrate through windows. It's best to use sunscreen with SPF 50 and reapply every two hours.
